Many executives rise to board-level jobs with limited or no prior experience in finance. At an executive level, they are constantly faced with finance questions: building and assessing business plans, deciding on issuing equity or debt, choosing between retaining cash or paying it out, valuing new projects or acquisition targets, etc. This program aims to provide tools to navigate with rigor across all these questions. It will provide non-finance executives with the necessary resources to analyze relevant questions in a board meeting, and provide valuable input to firms.
Objectives
- Have a foundational understanding of a company’s financial statements, and ask relevant questions about them in a board meeting
- Think strategically about a company’s financing policy (leverage, cash, payout), and ask relevant questions about them in a board meeting
- Value a firm, a project or a business unit
- Understand and apply the key concepts to corporate transactions such as IPOs and M&As
