"Our aim is to educate the CEOs and entrepreneurs of tomorrow", Laura Reyero, Associate Dean for the MBA in International Management
Could you introduce yourself?
My name is Laura Reyero, and I have a background in business, having worked for 30 years in multinational companies. Some years ago, I completed a PhD and became a marketing professor at ESCP Business School. I am now the Executive Dean for the MBA in International Management and am based on our Madrid campus. I love this position because I want to give back to students what I received.
Can you describe the curriculum that MBA students follow?
The MBA is a full-time, 10-month programme that enables students to expand their professional path in a short time; it is the perfect union of academics and business. We push our students to develop professionally by mixing soft skills and hard skills, because both are required in the same proportions in the business world. Our aim is to educate the CEOs and entrepreneurs of tomorrow. From the start of the programme, students are confronted with the strategic aspects of business. We teach them everything a good leader should be aware of.
Our MBA is unique because students get to study in two different cities: they choose between Paris, London and Turin for the Fall semester, and then between Paris, Berlin and Madrid for the Spring semester. At the end of the academic year, they take elective courses on our six European campuses and in Beirut. In total, students have the opportunity to study in a minimum of two countries and a maximum of six.
As we recruit students from different backgrounds, we offer extra support in some specific subjects if necessary (extra maths classes for students with backgrounds in humanities for instance).
Which skills do you want your students to develop?
During the MBA, students will get to know all areas of business (finance, marketing, human resources…) as they need to have a global vision of the business world to become efficient leaders. They will develop their knowledge in the fields of entrepreneurship, sustainability and decision-making.
One key aspect of the programme is that students spend most of their time working in groups, because this is what they will have to do when they work in a company. Over the course of several weeks, they will dedicate time to Company Consultancy Projects (CCPs): they will work as consultants for actual companies that need their input to think out of the box and bring new solutions. These CCPs enable our students to add two new professional experiences to their CVs during the MBA.
How do you help students find a job that suits their ambitions?
We empower our students; they need to understand that they can reach their dream job. Then our dedicated Career Services follow the needs of the market and the ambitions of our students and organise numerous career events (in person and online) to give our students the opportunity to meet companies. ESCP Business School has strong connections with many prestigious firms. Cartier is the sponsor of our MBA class, and we have professional chairs with companies such as L’Oréal, Deloitte, Renault or Airbus.
We also accompany non-European students that want to remain in Europe after the MBA. We help them navigate the European bureaucracy to get a work visa that will enable them to find a position that suits their ambitions.
What kind of profiles are you looking for in this programme?
We are open to diverse profiles in terms of nationality, gender, academic and professional backgrounds… We aim to attract students who want to become the new leaders of the 21st century: people with ambition, who are not afraid of working hard to get results and who are aware of the new trends of the business world, especially sustainability.
It is important to note that we offer numerous scholarships to students who have interesting profiles but suffer from monetary restrictions. We want to attract the top talents and will do our best to make sure that the people who deserve to study at ESCP do so in the best conditions.
Anything else you might want to add for future MBA students?
If you started your professional career or you want to be an entrepreneur, the MBA is a great way to boost your international career and empower you thanks to unique opportunities. ESCP is the only business school that allows you to study in at least two European countries during your MBA, and we offer a great diversity of students, professors and experiences.
The MBA is a young programme that has grown a lot over the past 5 years, and will continue to grow thanks to its students and its fully dedicated team.
We are convinced that this MBA is the best programme you can choose to boost your career and we are looking forward to meeting our new students very soon!
